Relief and Recovery Support

Relief and recovery following the December 2023 flood is being managed by local councils. If you were directly impacted, call your local council.

Emergency relief payments

Emergency relief payments are available for eligible community members whose homes have been impacted by the floods and storms in Victoria.

Emergency relief payments are designed to provide immediate financial help for eligible Victorians experiencing extreme financial hardship due to the floods and storms. 

An emergency relief payment can help you to pay for things you need most, including:

food
clothing
medication
accommodation.

Payment amount

Emergency relief payments are based on a fixed amount for each member of your household.

The payment is not calculated based on how much money you earn.

Payments are $640 per adult and $320 per child, up to a maximum of $2240 per eligible family.

Who can get the payment

You are eligible for a relief payment if you have unmet relief needs and:

your principal place of residence is, or was, in an evacuation warning area, and the floods or storms have damaged your home
your home has flooded above the floor.

Support for farmers and primary producers

Agriculture Victoria provides support to impacted primary producers through its Agriculture Recovery Team. You can contact the team on 0427 694 185. This number is regularly monitored and provides a call-back service.

For animal welfare support, call the Agriculture Victoria Animal Welfare hotline on 136 186.

Support for businesses

If your business has been impacted, reference your insurance policies or contact your local council for support.

	Planned Burn The general location of a planned burn that is currently underway on public land. Firefighters are managing the burn but flames and smoke may be visible. 	Flood Indicates the location of reported flooding that may be impacting on houses, roads, property and other infrastructure. Flooding may be caused by rain, river overflow, tidal surges, or dam failure. 	Dam Failure The reported location of a dam failure.
	Shark Sighting Reported location of a shark sighting. This is likely to result in a beach closure by Life Saving Victoria

	Other This could be an equipment fault, inspection, trivial call, or an operation to assist another agency.
